Abstract
MFAs(Material flow accounts) provide aggregate descriptions of the material flows through economies. Important indicators of the material use and material efficiency can be derived from these accounts. This paper aims to examine the analysis of sustainability by material use indicators for Korea and EU countries for the period 1988~2000. Analysis draws on two subjects, first DMC(Domestic Material Consumption) and per capita DMC of Korea showed a rapidly growth with the development of GDP between 1988 and 2002. Second, Overall, growth rates of DMC and per capita DMC for Korea are much higher than for EU countries. MFAs also are considered to provide better information for an understanding of de-materialization in relation to long term macro-economic processes. According to the results, Korea and Greece have been "no dematerialising" over a thirteen year period.
