Abstract
This study aimed to reveal the development and characteristics of Leonardo da Vinci’s artistic giftedness. The study finds that Leonardo da Vinci’s artistic giftedness was characterized by his outstanding observation, precocity for art and learning, extensive knowledge, dramatic screen composition, task concentration and firm artistic belief, and a willingness to challenge the status quo. The protection of an uncle and the support of his father, the creative culture of Florence, the advanced art education of Verrocchio, and the patronage of Sforza were also influential in nurturing his inherent talent. Leonardo da Vinci developed from the stage of art giftedness around the age of 10, to art expertise in his mid-teens to early 20s, art excellence in his late 20s to mid-30s, and finally to the stage of art creativity in his 40s.
