Abstract

Over the sand dune area in East Coast of Gangwon-do, pit tombs and dolmen in the Bronze Age, residential areas in the Iron Age, and old tombs of Sbilla in the Three Kingdoms Period are being excavated in the process of investigating Sbilla old tomb~. Such ruins are found throughout Coast of Gangwon-do region, which indicates that there are high possibilities that remains of the Bronze Age may exist. Former studies have been explained about the lack of sites in the Bronze Age that residential areas were relocated to hilly districts due to the rising of the sea level. However, there is limitation to explain the phase of distribution of Neolithic Age · Bronze Age sites only with the rising of the sea level. In consideration of the dynamic patterns of sand dunes regardless of rising of the sea level, erosion and re-accumulation of some areas, and variety types of sand dune fonnation, it seems that the formation of residential districts might have been changed according to the way of adaptation among people in the Bronze Age. Thus, in the study on the formation of residential districts in Neolithic Age · Bronze Age, it is concluded that accurate excavation and investigation in the sand dune districts and securing of related basic data are of great importance.
