양구 지역 성씨와 세거씨족에 관한 연구

Abstract

This paper was to help to reveal specific social aspects of traditional Yanggu area by identifying the distribution of family names and residing clans targeting Yangu area. Family name generation and change process of Yanggu area have been in keeping with the overall flow of Korean history and therefore, the aspect could be examined through geographic books mainly used for family name research. Especially in 18th-20th century, people with various family names came in and out compared to the 15th-16th century. In addition, the fact that there was Yu clan originated from Yanggu should be noted in that it can provide suggestions on the ups and downs of minor family names. Residing clans in Yanggu area are also closely related to the situation in the late Joseon Dynasty when bonds between clans were strengtened and clan villages were formed. Looking at the pattern of residing clans starting in the late Joseon Dynasty, it can be seen that people with 13 major family names resided. They went to the village for the divergence of their family names and this purpose was achieved by marriage with provincial noble family, ties due to the government office, purpose of the retreat etc. And these family names prepared a place for personal exchanges around Seoamsa.
