2011년 3월 11일 14시 46분에 일본 동북지방 태평양 연안에 규모(Mw) 9.0의 대 규모지진이 약 24km 깊이에서 발생하였다. 이는 일본에서 기록된 최대 규모의 지진이며, 전 세계적으로 4번째로 큰 지진이었다. 지진과 더불어 연이어 발생한 쓰나미에 의해 약 25000여명이 사망 및 행방불명 되었고, 인프라 구조에 막대한 피해를 동반하였다. 본 논문은 이러한 대규모 지진과 쓰나미의 발생 특성을 고찰해 보고자 한다.
Abstract
A strong earthquake with Mw 9.0 occurred on March 11 at 14:46JST (5:46GMT) at a depth of about 24 km, off the Pacific coast of northeastern part of Japan. The great event has the largest magnitude ever recorded in Japan and the 4th largest one in the world. Almost 25,000 people have been killed or are missing as a result of the earthquake and the subsequent monster tsunami. The earthquake and tsunami also caused a great damage to the infrastructures. This article reviews the characteristics of this earthquake and tsunami.
