노년기 죽음불안에 대한 Erik H. Erikson의 생애주기이론: 제8단계 `자아통합 대 절망`의 관점 연구

본 논문은 노년기의 죽음불안을 Erik H. Erikson의 생애주기 이론 제8단계`자아통합 대 절망`(Ego-integrity vs. Despair)의 관점에서 고찰한 것이다. 논문의 전개방식은 크게 넷으로 구분되어진다. 첫째는 Erikson이 이해한 인간과 인간의 생애주기, 그리고 그의 이론 제8단계 `자아통합 대 절망`에 대한 이해이다. 둘째는`절망`의 관점에서 이해한 노년기의 특징과 죽음불안에 대한 부분으로써 여기에는 셋으로 세분화 되는데, 하나는 노년기의 선 이해로써 장년기의 심리적, 사회적 특징을 다루었다. 다른 하나는 자아기능의 약화, 나머지는 노년기 죽음불안의 문제를 다루어 보았다. 셋째는 노년기 죽음불안을 위한 과제로써 자아정체성의 확립, 자아통합의 중요성, 인생에 대한 재평가를 통해서 노년기의 죽음불안을 극복할 수 있는 방안들을 보다 구체적으로 제시하였다. 넷째는 Erikson의 `자아통합 대 절망`의 관점을 요약하고 비평하면서 Erikson의 제8단계 이론을 보다 객관적으로 조망해 보려고 했다. 논문의 마지막 결론부분에서는 지금까지 전개된 이론을 논의해 보았다. 또한 노년기의 죽음불안을 심리·사회적인 관점에서 조망할 것과, 다양한 치료적 자원들과 연계할 수 있는 열린 자세를 가질 것, 마지막으로 인간이 죽음불안을 느낄 수밖에 없는 근본적인 원인에 대해서 통전적인 관점을 취할 것을 언급하면서 본 연구를 마무리 하였다.
Abstract
This paper examines the death anxiety of old age in terms of Ego-integrity vs despair in Erik H. Erikson`s Life Cycle Theory Phase 8. The dissemination method of the thesis is classified into four types. The first is the understanding of Erikson`s understanding of human beings and life cycle of humanity, and his theoretical eighth stage of `Ego-integrity vs Despair.` The second is divided into three stages of death anxiety as the characteristic of the old age in terms of despair, which dealt with the psychological and social characteristics of Mature age as prior to understanding. The other thing is the weakening of the ego function. The rest of the problem deals with the problems of "death anxiety" in the old age. Thirdly, as a task for death anxiety in the old age, it presents more concrete ways to overcome the anxiety of death in the old age through the establishment of Ego-identity, the importance of Ego-integration, and reevaluation of life. The fourth, attempt to objectively examine Erikson`s eighth stage theory while trying to summarize and criticize Erikson`s view of `Ego-integration vs Despair.` The conclusion of this study is to discuss the theory developed so far, to have an open attitude to connect death anxiety of the old age with psychological and social point of view, various therapeutic resources, and the integrated perspective about fundamental cause that can feel Death anxiety.
