Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between intrinsic motivation and re-entrepreneurship, as well as the moderating effects of resilience and entrepreneurial constraints. This study collected data from failed entrepreneurs in Korea. We found that intrinsic motivation for entrepreneurship had a positive effect on the re-entrepreneurship of failed entrepreneurs. In addition, resilience positively moderated the relationship between intrinsic motivation and re-entrepreneurship. Entrepreneurial constraints positively moderated the relationship between intrinsic motivation and re-entrepreneurship. This study provides valuable insights for entrepreneurs preparing for re-entrepreneurship after a failed venture, addressing a rarely examined area due to the rel uctance of entrepreneurs to share failure experiences. By focusing on the intrinsic motivation, resilience, and entrepreneurial constraints influencing re-entrepreneurship, this study expands the scope of the existing literature. Additionally, it emphasizes the need to foster environments that strengthen intrinsic motivation through educational programs, cultivate a social culture that accepts failure, and implement practical policy support to reduce entrepreneurial barriers, thereby encouraging re-entrepreneurship.
