Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to examine the conflicts between Ganjae’s disciples with the publication of Ganjae’s collection of writings. Focusing on Choi, Bueng-sim, in terms of the mental conflicts experienced by the Confucian scholar during the Japanese colonial ruled period. During this period, the censorship process (印可) of the Japanese governor authorization was inevitable. Therefore, publishing the collection of writings in a way that can properly continue the spirit of Joseon became the biggest problem and motives of conflicts between Ganjae Jeon, Wu’s disciples. When Ganjae was alive, he divided his own collection of writings into former and latter grades. Writings organized in the state just before the publication. However, after Ganjae died, his disciples have a serious conflicts over the publication of their teacher's collection of writings, which they have longed for so much. There were conflicts between Oh, Jin-young and Choi, Byung-sim who were the representative of disciple groups. In the previous discussion, there was review for the perspective of Oh, Jin-young. However, in this paper, the issue of conflicts over the publication of the collection of writings were reviewed, centering on Choi, Byung-sim, who was standing on the opposite side. Oh, Jin-young rushed to publish the collection of writings, based on the two reasons. Convenience and freedom without Japanese governor authorization for publishing the collection of writings at Jin Ju. His intention was to publish quickly so that the teacher's collection of writings would not disappeared in the dark periods. However, the progress that did not go through sufficient agreement within disciples, such as the composition of deviations and printing methods, were the reasons of conflicts. Choi, Byung-sim expressed his opinion that the reconstruction of the deviation could results in distorting the Jeon Wu’s intention. Furthermore, he promoted his own independent publication of collection of writings. Claiming that Jeon Wu's collection of writings which published in the process of censorship and deletion by the Japanese Government-General would damage the spirit of resistance to Japan. As a result, Currently there are different series of Ganjae’s collection of writings by Oh, Jin-young and Choi, Byung-sim. In the gloomy periods, during the Japanese colonial rule period, the collection of writings, the spiritual heritage of Joseon, remains with us as more valuable than just data.
