Abstract
This study attempts a path approach on the diffusion of adoption in consumer network. The position of each individual has within the network was analyzed through network structure analysis, and we identified hubs and brokers in the network. I wished to examine closely the diffusion phenomenon that appears in the network. We examine the role of hubs and brokers on the adoption process of items in a social network site. The results are as follows:First, both hubs and brokers appear to have a positive influence on the successful diffusion. Second, the influence of a hub on diffusion is bigger in the early stage of the process. Third, the influence of brokers on diffusion becomes more important in the later stage than in the early stage. This result shows that brokers are as important as hubs in the process of diffusion and that brokers have different role than hubs in the process of diffusion. Lastly, both hubs and brokers appear to have a positive influence on the size of adoption. In terms of relative size of influence, hubs show larger standard coefficient of influence on the size of adoption. However, in terms of the influence of individual member of hubs or brokers, an individual broker seems to have larger influence on the size of adoption than an individual hub.
