‘최치원’의 전승과 광주 지산재 : 이지역성 탐색을 위한 시론

Abstract

This article examines how Chiwon Choi from Yeongnam was called in the Honam region and was used to construct the regional peculiarity of Honam in connection with the construction process of Jisanjae in Gwangju. In particular, in this article, I paid attention to how the ‘Choi Chi-won tradition’ was formed, and in what way it was reproduced and reached ‘now-here’, and what the implications of such an overall process. From this point of view, this article is not an empirical study to clarify what “locality of Honam” is, but rather has a poetic character of exploring the social output process of the specificities that constitute locality. The reality of the ‘Choi Chi-won tradition’ arouses our curiosity in at least two points. The first is how the'Choi Chi-won tradition' was created, and the second is what kind of regional peculiarity was formed by appropriating such a tradition to a specific region and local people. I saw this aspect as a process in which singularities with different identities meet and reconstitute, and I looked at it from the viewpoint of 'Different localities.' - the encounter and reconstruction of different localities. Although a tradition centered on Choi Chi-won is structured in a single way at the governing level, at the same time, the aspect of being created, transmitted and reconstructed by local people in the region also coexists. The process of accepting and reenacting the “Choi Chi-won tradition” through Jisanjae eventually overlaps with the process of constructing a multi-pronged locality of Honam. In a way, it is not known that he meets Chi-won Choi, who has permeated the lives of local residents of Gwangju. This article has a poetic character of an exploration of the social output process of the singularities constituting the locality, rather than an empirical study to explain what “locality of Honam” is.
