초록

Recently, many studies have tried to test the validity of behavioral measurement that were conducted by the mobile environment. The purpose of current study is to investigate whether the behavioral data (e.g., response times and error rates) to be measured in the mobile environment (e.g. smartphone or tablet PC) can be applied in behavioral research area or not. To achieve this goal, this study made a stimulus list composed of two and four syllabic strings and asked 71 participants to conduct lexical decision tasks that required participants to press ‘word’ button when a presented strings on a screen were categorized in words or to press ‘nonword’ button when the presented strings were categorized in meaningless strings as quickly and accurately as possible. Response times and error rates that were obtained by smartphone and tablet PC were compared with those of megastudy made up of considerable trials. The result showed that mean response times was very similar between two environments, but the distribution of response times and error rates on the mobile environment was different from the distribution of response times and error rates on the megastudy. This study interpreted that the different distribution might be induced by the different response sensitivity of two environments. Accordingly, the present study suggested the way to narrow the gap between two environments in discussion.

Abstract

Recently, many studies have tried to test the validity of behavioral measurement that were conducted by the mobile environment. The purpose of current study is to investigate whether the behavioral data (e.g., response times and error rates) to be measured in the mobile environment (e.g. smartphone or tablet PC) can be applied in behavioral research area or not.
