초록
Objectives: This case report aimed to explore pattern identification and Korean Medicine treatment in patients with insomnia through Iris Diagnosis. Methods: A patient with insomnia was diagnosed with Tae-eumin using Sasang constitutional diagnosis, a basic diagnostic methods in Korean medicine. The iris was photographed, and the image revealed signs associated with the sympathicotonic type. The pupil size exceeded normal range, and the inner zone of the autonomic nerve wall, which reflects sympathetic tension, was markedly narrower than normal values. These findings confirmed the presence of the sympathicotonic type. Based on a prescription for constitutional vulnerabilities of the patient, a herbal formula with medicinal substances to regulate the sympathicotonic type was administered for four cycles of 10 days each. Results: This case demonstrates that herbal medicine treatment can induce meaningful improvements in a patient with chronic insomnia unresponsive to hypnotic therapy. This suggests the potential applicability of Korean medicine in insomnia management. Conclusion: This case demonstrates that herbal medicine treatment can induce significant improvement in a patient with chronic insomnia unresponsive to hypnotic medication. This suggests the potential of Korean medicine as an alternative approach for treating insomnia.
