The largehead hairtail (Trichiurus japonicus) is an important commercial fish species in East Asia. We investigated the changes in the main spawning season of T. japonicus females migrating to the Jeju Island. We verified the maturation season of mature females and immature females (less than 1 year old). The peak spawning season for mature females was from May to August. The peak spawning season for immature females was estimated to be between July and September. The rapid maturation of immature female fish in less than one year may be due to population decline.
