We are interested in a second-order nonlinear problem under homogeneous dirichlet boundary conditions. By combining the method of lower- and upper-solutions, the variational method and the theory of topological degree, we obtain results on the existence of solutions and the multiplicity of solutions when the problem admits well-ordered or unordered lower- and upper-solutions, or a single lower- or upper-solution.
