Nüyi zayan, which was written by Tan Yunxian of the Ming Dynasty, is a medical book including thirty one treatment cases for female patients. The medical treatments in this book took a delicate and various approach for female disease, and could not be found in previous medical books. Thirty one treatment cases in Nüyi zayan introduce vivid information about disease, daily life, and medical treatment of Chinese women during the Ming Dynasty. Nüyi zayan has particular significance because Tan Yunxian treated many working class women besides the upper class ones. The cases in this book were never found through any other medical books written by male literati. Nuüi zayan focused on women’s life in the Ming Dynasty, and we can understand the female diseases and women’s life of the time.
