A Sociometric Method for Analyzing Structural Aspects of Relations with Classmates by Cluster Analysis

Abstract
Recent developments in sociometric techniques have facilitated a greater understanding of structural aspects of relations with classmates. The common methods of analyzing sociometry are sociogram, sociometric indices and sociometric matrices. Sociogram methods is useful in depict a group structure in visually when the number of nomination is large and sociogram method is limitation. Sociometric index is difficult to grasp dyadic relations in class since researchers use a sum of column and row of sociometric matrices. Researchers calculate the effect of indirect nomination by multiplying adjacency sociometric matrix. So adjacency matrix plays a key role in calculating a indirect nomination, but there are some problems in adjacency matrix. This study concentrates on clustering members in-group and calculating the effect of indirect nomination. Researchers suggest a method of clustering members according to the degree of nomination by a cluster analysis, and define a new adjacent matrix for analyzing indirect nomination. And researchers apply the method to primary school data in order to verify its usability
