Abstract
Kamogawastonefrom Kyotoareahasbeenusedfortheblackrakuglazeformorethan400years.However,thereservereductionofKamogawastoneandagradualdisappearanceofits intrinsiccolorraise the necessityforthe developmentofnew blackglaze materialwhich can replaceKamogawastone.Inthisstudy, weanalyzedthecompositionofKamogawastoneand developedanovelblackglazeusinglocalmaterialsfrom Korea.Wefoundthatthecomposition ofsludge ofcrushed basaltfrom Jeju island isthe mostsimilarto thatofKamogawa stone. We mixed basaltsludge (70g),silica (20g),Frit(6280)(10g),and wustite (10g),and the L*a*b*colorscale ofthe mixture was 28.33,0.20,and –2.35,respectively.When we spreaded the glaze two orthree timesand fired the glazed ware at1,180℃ for10 min in reduction firing atmosphere, stabledarkgraycolorwassuccessfullydeveloped
