Abstract

An Analytic Study of the Constituents of the Syntactic Construction in P'ansori ChangdanLee Bo-HyungWhile the meter structure of changdan is produced by the basic structure called "syntactic construction of changdan rhythm," the common syntactic construction of changdan is produced by structural constituents form called "common rhythmic form." In the music such as p'ansori can one changdan indicated be realized to many different patterns. The Fundamental construction of the changdan indicated can be named as "deep structure" and all realized patterns can be named as "surface structure." When the rhythmic forms of "surface structure" show different patterns from those of the deep structure, I call them as those of "concealed structure." In the article, I analyse the design how the constituents are formed and what kinds of meter-structure are created, when the syntactic concealed construction of the changdan rhythm is made. The results of the study is that there are in p'ansori many musical designs which produce concealed construction. The meter structure which produces the concealed construction can be sometimes stereotyped one and other times non-stereo-typed one. In traditional terminology, the former was indicated as natural rhythmic change and the latter unnatural rhythmic change.
