부드러운 조각의 관점에서 본 패딩을 활용한 패션디자인 - 레이 가와쿠보와 릭 오웬스를 중심으로

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze fashion design using padding, which is increasing interest due to the development of material technology, climate change, and the spread of sports and leisure culture from the perspective of soft sculpture. Padding, which means soft material in the term itself, has a form similar to that of early works of soft sculpture, and recently, more cases have focused on free expression beyond functionality. The study was centered on the designs of Rei Kawakubo and Rick Owens, who showed the most experimental cases in the last 5 years. The method of study is to derive the concept and characteristics of soft sculptures through literature, and analyze the characteristics of the padding fashion design based on the derived characteristics. The conclusions of this study are as follows. First, the analyzed characteristics of the soft sculpture are the matière's flexibility, the implications of the human body, the surreality by exaggeration, and the dailiness of objects. Second, it was revealed through various reviews that Rei Kawakubo and Rick Owens are using padding from the perspective of soft sculpture, and that it was possible to develop an experimental design. Third, the fashion design using padding maximizes the characteristics of the soft sculpture due to the specificity of the human body and its movement. Fourth, the padding approached with a soft sculpture expanded the variability of the material and the surreality by exaggeration, unlike the existing function-oriented design and pursued fun and the challenges to stereotypes by distortion of the human body and introduction of objects. Padding has become a medium that effectively shows the world of experimental works of two designers who deny established concepts or forms. This study is meaningful in discovering interesting examples of fashion using padding, and suggesting a new perspective to develop experimental design using padding as a soft sculpture.
