Abstract
In this study, a high-performance hydrated lime (Ca(OH)2) production process was developed to enhance SO2 removal efficiency in flue gas desulfurization (FGD) systems by increasing the specific surface area and pore volume of hydrated lime. Quicklime (CaO) was crushed to particles smaller than 1 mm, sieved through a 200-mesh screen, and subjected to dry hydration under optimal conditions: a W/CaO ratio of 0.5, a hydration temperature of 45 ℃, and the addition of 4 % ethylene glycol. During post-treatment, a drying temperature of 350 ℃ yielded a maximum specific area and pore volume of 39.1 m2/g and 0.177 cm3/g, respectively. The hydrated lime with a specific area exceeding 30 m2/g had a total neutralizing capacity approximately 4 % higher than that of hydrated lime having a surface area of 24 m2/g, underscoring the role of surface area in enhancing solubility and reactivity. The pre- and post-treatment processes effectively eliminated impurities and achieved a uniform particle distribution with an optimized pore structure, thereby maximizing the quality and reactivity of the hydrated lime. This study provides a practical approach for producing high-performance hydrated lime, meeting the efficiency and economic feasibility demands of industrial applications such as FGD. The findings offer valuable insights into sustainable environmental management technologies.
