Abstract
This study explores how voguing dance impacts the self-esteem of queer dancers through a case analysis. Participants used voguing to transform repressed femininity into art, restoring self-esteem and achieving liberation. Through ballroom categories based on sexual identity and sexual orientation, they expressed themselves and per ceived these acts as a form of coming out. Voguing also allowed them to redefine their self-worth by breaking soci etal aesthetic standards and embracing gender-fluid expression. Ballroom culture provided a distinctive sense of be longing, as it was defined as a "queer community” where participants experienced a connection not found in other groups. In particular, the “house” culture functioned as a second family, fostering strong social support. These find ings offer a meaningful foundation for understanding the dance experiences of queer individuals and expected to serve as practical and valuable foundational data for future research.
