Abstract
In this study, when designing a frame structure based on plastic design, the differences in structure manufacturing cost and behavior according to the type of column are investigated. It is important to select an appropriate column member for a structure that is subjected to both axial and lateral loads. If the plastic design method is adopted for the efficient design of the structure, the role of the column becomes more emphasized because not only the beam but also the column plays the role of transferring the surplus moment to other members when the beam is subjected to an overload. In particular, the lateral load requires the ductility of the column, and the Concrete filled tube (CFT)-type column member secures the ductility through a higher steel ratio than the Reinforced Concrete (RC) member. Therefore, if the structure is designed by applying plastic design to the structure to which the lateral load is applied, the CFT column member will show better performance than the RC column member. To confirm that the CFT member has better performance than the RC, in this study, the columns are designed and analyzed differently for a symmetric structure with a low floor, an asymmetric structure with a low floor, and a symmetric structure with a high floor. The advantages of adopting CFT column members on frame plastic design will be shown through the differences in the load type and cost of the columns according to the various structure types.
