초록
The color of soil as one of the physical properties of soil depends on internal and external environments such as time, climate, and parent material. Formation of ferric oxide minerals and accumulation of organic matters cause soil rubification and melanization respectively with time. This study calculated rubification and melanization indexs on 31 alluvium soil samples in South Korea and analyzed relationship on soil color between time, soil texture, location and geographical conditions with respect to soil chronosequence. Rubification index is a useful index for estimation of correlated age and relative age, because it shows positive relationship with time distinctly. When compared to reference studies, the rubification rate of soils in South Korea showed high and constant during about a hundred thousand years. Mean grain size of soil appeared to get smaller with older age. Rubification index tend to be higher with higher elevation from river. Melanization index is difficult to apply as proxy data for age dating of landforms, because it becomes higher at the beginning, and then lower gradually with time.
