Three unrecorded species of free-living marine nematodes of the order Enoplida Filipjev, 1929 (Nematoda) from Korea

Three known species of the free-living nematodes were gathered from marine sediments of sublittoral zone in Korea and described and illustrated. Belbolla zhangi Guo & Warwick, 2001, which was originally described from the Bohai Sea, China, is recorded from the East Sea, Korea for the first time; only in the ratio a and cʹ (33-39 vs. 29-35, 3.5-4.5 vs. 2.9-3.7). Specimens of Halalaimus gracilis de Man, 1888 from East Sea, Korea largely agree with the original description of de Man (1888) of nematodes from North Sea and the redescription of Platt & Warwick (1983) of nematodes from the England, except for slightly longer body width (20-24 μm vs. 16-26 μm) and the body length (1,120-1,315 μm vs. 800-1,300 μm). Oxystomina elongata (Bütschli, 1874) Filipjev, 1921; apart from few minor morphological differences between the specimens from North Sea (Lorenzen, 1965) and from England (Warwick et al., 1998); in the value of “de Man ratio b which was higher in specimens from North Sea and England (b=6.5-7.7 vs. 4.4-4.5) and slight difference in the body width (40-50 μm vs. 32-38 μm). The present study on unrecorded species improves the understanding of nematodes species diversity in Korean waters.
