초록

Objectives & Methods : In this study, we hypothesized that there is an order in the application of the eight therapeutic methods when clinical situations are complex and multiple methods are required. The aim was to clarify the relative position of sweating therapy by analyzing the passages in which sweating therapy is presented together with other treatment methods (vomiting, urinating, harmonizing, warming, strengthening, cooling, and defecating therapies). The text used were the Guilin Gubon of the Shanghan Zabinglun, reprinted in 2017 and the Song edition. Results & Conclusions : The results showed that, when both sweating therapy and other methods were indicated, urinating, harmonizing, warming, and strengthening therapies may be applied before sweating therapy. In contrast, sweating therapy could precede cooling and defecating therapies. In the relationship between sweating therapy and harmonizing therapy, the order of treatment became clear in cases where diagnosis was confirmed. There were urgent cases where defecating therapy should precede sweating therapy. The order between sweating and vomiting therapies remained unclear. However, based on their relationship with other methods, vomiting therapy was assumed to precede sweating therapy, particularly when ‘胸中實’ (fullness in the chest) was present. This study thus suggests priority between sweating therapy and each individual therapy. Further research is required to establish the overall sequence among the eight therapeutic methods described by Zhang Zhongjing(仲景八法).
