Abstract
Guo Ziyi(697-781 A. D. ), who is widely known as Guo Fenyang, is a general famous for calming the An Shi rebellion of dynasty Tang. The rise and fall of dynasty Tang’s have vital relation with him. He was respected by people from ancient to now. This study explores how the successful life of Guo Fenyang was represented in various Icons throughout Chinese and Korean paintings. The original painting of Guo Fenyang was started from the Chinese paintings. In the traditional China, images of Guo Fenyang were considered auspicious. This auspicious image of Guo Fenyang can be seen in Chinese paintings such as ‘Guo Fenyang’s portrait’, ‘Painting of congratulate Guo Fenyang’s birthday’, ‘Painting of Great riches and honour and longevity’, ‘Painting of Guo Fenyang’s Stories’. The extant Guo Fenyang paintings of the Chosun dynasty differ from the Chinese version of its format and visual characteristics. This research will provide the similarities and differences between Chinese and Korean image of Guo Fenyang.
