A Study on the Cases of the Citizens’ Participation in Crime Prevention Practices

This article is a comparative study of the citizens' participation in crime prevention practices among Korea, the United States and the United Kingdom. Through this study, I want to guide citizens to actively participate in crime prevention activities, and seek support system to strengthen the cooperation of police and citizens. 36)For the study, First, I explored previous studies and theories that claimed the cooperation between police and citizens for crime prevention. Second, I examined citizens' crime prevention activity cases in domestic and foreign countries, compared the similarities and differences. Then I discussed the limits of citizen participations in Korea and the implications focused on ways to overcome them. Third, I proposed citizens' participation incentives in the crime prevention activities and policy measures to strengthen cooperations. The focuses of Citizen crime prevention are the support and participation. To do this, We need to develop systematic citizen participation programs, continuous management and support. In policy proposal part, for the expansion of citizen participation, I proposed policy approaches, such as integration of existing citizen organizations, the introduction of physical environmental improvement strategies, the legislation of legal base for civic participation.
