초록
The aim of this study is to determine the target point of the nuclear vowel of Korean diphthongs. F1 and F2 were measured at 10-20-30-40-50-60-70-80-90% temporal locations across the /j/ diphthongs and /w/ diphthongs’ duration. The Euclidean distances between each point of the diphthongs and the corresponding vowel to the nuclear vowel were calculated. The result shows that at the 60% temporal point, the diphthongs reached closest to its corresponding vowel, which means that the target point of the nuclear vowel of the Korean diphthongs is at its 60% point. The trajectory of the diphthongs shows that there was no significant difference between F1 of the starting point of the glides and that of the midpoint of the corresponding vowel. This means that Korean glides are not produced with a greater degree of constriction than the corresponding vowels. However, the distribution of the starting points of /w/ were relatively dispersed, which can be interpreted as a result of the weakening of lip rounding.
