초록

Tetromino, which is a set of combinations of four rectangles, is widely recognized, since it is used in TetrisTM, one of the most famous computer games. Nowadays, several board games that mimic TetrisTM are released for education of under-aged children. We present a two-stage algorithm that produces tetromino-based puzzle from user-input high-resolution images. In the first stage, we convert a high-resolution image into a low-resolution pixelated image using a superpixel algorithm. The pixelated image is generalized to share a set of colors from a common palette. In the second stage, we build a series of 4x4 and 8x8 tiles of tetrominos and fill the pixelated image using the tiles. The strategy of filling the image is to minimize the color difference between the color of the tetrominoes in the tiles and the color of the corresponding pixels in the pixelated image. We can control the resolution of the pixelation to control the complexity of the puzzle. We can manufacture the tetromino tile to build a board game as well as a computer-based game using our puzzle. Through various user-study, our game is proved to be very attractive for people of various ages.
