초록
The purpose of this paper is to illuminate the innate instability of urban civilization with the help of the study of Heracles myth and Gilgamesh Epic. Separation of man from man and from nature bring about instability. The urban civilization maintains itself through conquest and exploitation. Cultural heroes also cannot stop. If this article focuses on the instability of urban civilization in myths, a comparative study with Epic of Gilgamesh is inevitable. It is because Gilgamesh Epic can be called the myth of the first urban civilization. The Gilgamesh Epic depicts a struggle in the early stages of urban civilization with conquering the deep forests and killing the god that stand guard to protect them. In comparison, Heracles myth focuses on solving the problems of the larger urban civilization, eradicating predators and monsters, laying the foundations of city construction, conquering the various tribes around them, and submitting the foundation of the nation. In fact, these heroes are war machines that play a leading role in the transition from a democratic society of the primitive to a class society of state form. The analysis of these two must be considered together to be able to critically examine the paradigm of Western civilization by examining the origin of urban civilization more precisely.
Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to illuminate the innate instability of urban civilization with the help of the study of Heracles myth and Gilgamesh Epic.
