Abstract

Jinsoe is the name of a rhythm that appears in the Southern Gut of Gyeonggi-do and is used as an accompaniment to dance. It is said that the rhythm and dance are combined to become a procedure for welcoming the gods in Jeseokgut or guiding the deceased toward the afterlife in Saenamgut. However, the problem is that it is not currently performed in gut and there is no documentation on its performance. Nevertheless, it is widely known as ‘Jinsoe rhythm’ and ‘Jinsoe dance’ and is frequently used in terms of music and dance. Although it is discontinued in gut, it is being used and transmitted as a musical piece and folk dance, and it is expected that it will contribute to the uniqueness of Gyeonggi-do Southern Gut, male shamans play a more prominent role than female shamans, and it is necessary to conduct research in that it is expected to contribute to identifying the cause of its uniqueness. The problem is that previous research has been fragmentary and superficial, and research has been conducted from the perspective of the gut procedure, which is the real foundation. This study was conducted with the goal of revealing the whole picture of Jinsoe, but as a result, it failed to reach its ultimate goal because it failed to find any materials documenting the performance of Jinsoe in gut rituals. In the process, it was possible to clearly confirm the reality of Jinsoe rhythm and dance, but it failed to reach a clear conclusion on where within the ritual it is situated and what role it serves. It attempted to clarify by establishing and exploring four hypotheses: 1) Gununggeori of Dodanggut, 2) Jeseokgeori of Dodanggut, 3) Cheondo Saenamgut, 4) the prelude to Bujeonggeori. Although it failed to reach a clear explanation and many questions still remain, it can be said that its significance lies in the fact that it confirmed the possibility through an attempt.
