산티아고 칼라트라바 건축의 구조적 조형미를 응용한 패션디자인 연구 – 테이프 자수기법을 중심으로 -

패션과 건축은 인간의 생활을 총제적으로 상징하고 있는 예술 활동으로 인간을 기준으로 한 조형 활동이라는점에서 관련성이 있다. 나아가 건축 조형의 방법은 패션디자인의 표현방식과 유사성을 보이며 많은 디자이너들이 구조적 형태나 건축물의 외피를 패션디자인에 다양하게 활용하고 있다. 이에 본 연구는 구조적 조형미의 예술적 표현을 추구하는 칼라트라바의 건축 작품을 모티프로 하여 그의 건축 작품에 나타난 ‘선적 조형미’, ‘투시미’, ‘율동미’를 적용한 패션디자인을 제시하고자 한다. 이를 위해 폴리프로필렌과 투명 폴리우레탄을 표현 소재로 선정하였다. 폴리프로필렌은 레이저 커팅을 통해 테이프화하고, 투명 소재인 폴리우레탄에 밀착 반복 구성한 결과 모티프의 조형미를 효과적으로 표현할 수 있었다. 폴리프로필렌은 가벼우면서 탄성과 강도가 있어 바탕소재인 폴리우레탄과 조화를 이루어 건축적 구조와 3차원적 형태, 부조적 표면감을 잘 나타낼 수 있었다. 칼라트라바의 건축 구조에 나타나는 조형의 미적 성격 즉, 구조적 조형미는 테이프 자수 기법으로 패션디자인에 접목한 결과, 전체 구조와 형태, 그리고 표면구조에 있어서 독창적인 디자인을 제시할 수 있었다. 선적 요소의 반복 구성으로 면적 요소를 제작하고 면을 인체 위에 입체적으로 반복 배열함으로써 면과 면이 공간을 두고 겹쳐투시되어서 공간감을 주는 동시에 눈에 어른거리는 시각적 효과가 나타나 디자인에 역동감과 장식미를 더해 줄수 있었다. 본 연구를 통해 건축의 조형미를 표현하는 기법의 새로운 시도가 계속적으로 이루어진다면 패션디자인에 있어 앞으로도 다양한 실험적 시도를 통한 표현 영역의 범위가 보다 넓어질 것으로 기대한다.
Abstract
Fashion and architecture are forms of art that represent the overall life of people. The characteristic of such elements show similarity to the expression methods of fashion design, and many designers implement structural forms or architectural shapes and facades in fashion design. Thus, the present study will motif the architectural works of Calatrava, which seeks artistic expression of structural beauty, to present fashion designs that apply the words “linear beauty” “perspective beauty” and “rhythmical beauty” to his architectural works. For this purpose, polypropylene and transparent polyurethane were chosen as the expressive materials. non-transpare nt polypropylene material and transparent polyurethane material which were cut out using laser cutters, which is a transparent material, was able to effectively express the shape of motifs polypropylene is lightweight, yet strong and elastic, and as a result of tightly attaching it to the base polyurethane material was able to be effective in expressing the architectural structure, 3 dimensional form, and the surface of sculptural reliefs. The aesthetic nature of the formations appearing in the architectural structure of Calatrava, or structural formations, was incorporated into fashion design with tape embroidery techniques, and, as a result, presented an original design in the overall structure, form and surface structure. as a result of creating the cloth element with a repetitive linear composition and layering the cloth over the human body, the space between the cloths were overlapping, yet still perceivable, giving it both a spatial impression and a wavering effect, which added a dynamic power and decorative beauty. If new ways are continuously attempted to express the structural beauty of architecture through this study, the range of expression methods in fashion design is expected to widen through various experimental attempts to come.
