본 연구는 환경설계의 한 부분으로 제시되고 있는 범죄예방시설물들이 주민들에게 범죄에 대한 두려움을 감소시키는 지, 어떠한 시설물들이 범죄의두려움을 더 많이 감소시키고 있는 지에 대하여 연구하였다. 그리고 이러한 범죄예방시설물들의 효과에 대하여 평가할 때 사람들은 어떠한 차원(척도)를 사용하는지도 함께 연구하였다. 용인시 아파트에 거주하는 134명을 대상으로설문조사하여 각각 범죄예방시설물의 효과성 및 효과성 인식의 차원을 분석하였다. 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 주민들은 범죄예방시설물들의 필요성을 인식하고 있었으며, 폐쇄회로TV, 가로등, 투명유리의시설물은 범죄의 두려움을 감소시키는 데 큰 효과가 있었으나, 담장, 차량차단기, 도어록은 그렇지않다고 생각하고 있었다. 둘째, 방범시설물들의 효과를 평가할 때 주민들은 그 시설물이 감시기능을 수행하는 지, 기능의 주된 수행장소라는 척도를 이용하는 것으로 나타났다. 향후 더 많은 방범시설물들을 대상으로 하여, 전국적인 조사를 통해 과학성을 확보할 필요가 있다.
Abstract
This study dealt with the three topics. First, can the crime preventive facilities(e.g CCTV, Street lighting, Guarder, Door lock, Landscaping, Plate glass, Vehicle barriers)reduce the fear of crime? Second, how people perceive the effectiveness of these Facilities in reducing Fear of Crime?And the third, when they perceive the effectiveness of Crime Preventive Facilities, what dimensions(scales) do they use?Surveys were conducted twice targeting 134 apartments resident(and merchants), in Yong In City. The main results are as follows. First, residents in the apartments were thinking about the necessity of ‘Crime Preventive Facilities’. Second, they were thinking the most effective crime preventive facilities were CCTVs,and the nexts were the Street Lightings, and the Plate Glasses,respectively, but Walls, Vehicle barriers, and Door lock systems were not. Third, when people evaluated the effectiveness of ‘Crime Preventive Facilities’, it were assumed that they highly depended on whether the facilities performed surveillance functions or targeting areas of these facilities. And they perceived that facilities that performed surveillance functions were more effective than those of access control in reducing the fear of crime.
