악기 연주를 사용한 인지 훈련이 치매 환자의 인지기능에 미치는 효과

이 연구는 악기 연주를 사용한 인지 훈련이 치매 노인의 인지 기능에 어떠한 효과를 미치는가를 알아보기 위한 것이다. 연구의 대상은 2007년 9월 20일부터 10월 31까지 경상북도 군위군에 소재한 노인 전문 요양 시설에 재원 중인 치매 노인 환자 30명으로써 실험집단 15명, 통제집단 15명으로 무선 배치하여 실험을 하였다. 총 6주간의 치료에서는 그룹별로 주 2회, 매 50분씩 총 12회의 그룹 치료를 시행하였다. 연구의 결과 악기 연주를 사용한 인지 훈련을 한 실험 집단은 통제집단에 비해 인지 기능에 유의미한 향상을 나타내었으며(p< .05), 실험 집단은 인지 기능의 하위 영역(지남력, 기억력, 주의집중 및 계산력, 기억회상, 언어 기능, 이해 및 판단 능력)중 지남력에서 가장 유의미한 향상을 나타내었다(p< .05). 이상의 결과로 악기 연주를 사용한 인지 훈련은 치매 노인의 인지기능 향상에 효과적이라는 결론을 얻었다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate whether playing musical instruments helped improve the cognitive functions of dementia patients. The subjects, comprised of thirty people who were diagnosed with dementia, were hospitalized in the nursing home in Gunwi, Kyungsangbukdo from Sep 20th to Oct 31st. They were randomly assigned into two groups with fifteen people composing the control group and the other fifteen people undergoing the treatment/experimental process. The latter received 50 minute sessions twice a week for over six weeks. The results found the experimental group to have significant improvements in cognitive functioning as compared to the control group. In particular, the treatment group's greatest improvement among the subordinate cognitive functions lay in orientation, the others being memory, concentration and calculation skill, remembrance, language skill, understanding and judgment. Therefore, the results showed that playing musical instruments for the purpose of cognitive training can be effective for enhancing dementia patients' cognitive functioning.
