본 연구는 금융위기와 같은 외부환경 변화가 메이저나 다른 수직통합기업에 비해 독립계 자원개발기업들에 차별적인 영향을 미치는가를 분석하고, 독립계 기업의 유기적 성장전략과 기업가치 간의 상관관계에 대해 살펴보았다. 이중차감법을 활용하여 분석한 결과 독립계 기업들, 특히 소규모 기업들이 외부 충격에 더 큰 영향을 받았으며, 단순한 규모 차이 이외에도 독립계 기업 간 지역적 다변화나 가스매장량 비중 등 다른 이질성도 수익성에 영향을 미친 것으로 나타났다. 또한, 회귀분석을 통해 동일한 매장량이라도 단순 매입이 아닌 유기적으로 확보하는 매장량 확대 전략이 장기 기업가치에 유의미한 긍정적 영향을 미친다는 결과를 얻었다.
Abstract
This Paper analyzes the differential impacts of external shocks such as the global financial crisis on the independent E&P companies and examines the correlation between organic growth and enterprise value of the independents. It is shown that the independents were affected more than the majors and other integrated E&P companies by the financial crisis. Moreover, the differential impacts were found even among the independents, which originate from such heterogeneities in firm size, geographical diversification and the share of gas reserves. It is also shown that the growth strategy of the independents through acquiring the organic reserves contributes more positively to long-term enterprise value than that through the purchased reserve.
