초록

This study examines the effect of emergency department (ED) admission rates on patient flow and overall hospital operational performance. Using a sample of 133 hospitals in Florida from 2015 to 2017, hierarchical regression analysis was conducted. The results indicate that higher ED admission rates negatively affect swift patient flow. Moreover, the study finds that swift patient flow is associated with lower hospital costs and higher operational margins. However, even flow does not significantly affect operating costs or operational margins. These findings highlight the importance of maintaining appropriate ED admission rates and optimizing patient flow to enhance hospital efficiency.
