세계화가 가속화되면서 문화의 경계가 모호해지고 있지만 각 지역의 고유한 특성은 여전히 중요한 연구 주제이다. 지역성은 단순한 공간적 개념이 아니라 사람들의 실천과 경험 속에서 끊임없이 형성되고 변화하는 역동적인 특성이 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 영남춤의 로컬리티인 지역 무용의 과정과 특성을 탐구하고자 한다. 영남춤의 지역성을 이해하기 위해 ‘물리적 환경’, ‘심미적 환경’, ‘사회적 관계’의 세 가지 측면에서 연구를 진행하였다. 첫째, 영남춤은 일상적인 공간을 신성한 의식 공간으로 변모시키고 그 안에서 활발한 실천을 통해 의미를 창출했다. 둘째, 영남 지역 고유의 미적 감각이 '덧배기춤'이라는 춤 문화를 형성하는 데 중요한 역할을 했다. 활기차고 강한 음악적 선호도는 영남춤의 독특한 스타일을 확립하는 데 영향을 미쳤다. 셋째, 탈춤은 당시 사람들이 춤을 즐기는 문화 속에서 발전했다. 그 토대는 조선 후기 상업과 무역의 발달 속에서 영남 지역의 춤 문화가 더욱 확장되었다는 것이다. 지역 주민들은 이를 창의적으로 계승하여 오늘날까지 이어지고 있는 영남의 로컬리티가 된다. 그 결과 영남춤은 영남 지역의 환경과 문화적 흐름 속에서 활발히 실천되어 온 춤의 한 형태라고 할 수 있다. 본 연구는 영남춤의 로컬리티를 살펴봄으로써 한국무용의 다양화와 세계 무용문화의 다원적 발전에 기여하고자 한다.
Abstract
The boundaries of culture are blurring as globalization accelerates, but the unique characteristics of each region are still an important research topic. Locality is not just a spatial concept, but has a dynamic characteristic that is constantly formed and changed through people's practices and experiences. Therefore, this study attempts to explore the process and characteristics of local dance, through the locality of Yeongnam dance. In order to understand the locality of Yeongnam dance, research was conducted in three aspects: the 'physical environment', the 'aesthetic environment ', and 'social relations'. First, Yeongnam dance transformed everyday spaces into sacred and conscious locations, and thus created meaning through active practice within them. Second, the unique aesthetic sense of the Yeongnam region played an important role in forming the dance culture called 'Doublebaegi dance'. The preference for vibrant and strong music influenced the establishment of the unique style of Yeongnam dance. Third, mask dances developed in a culture where people enjoyed dancing at the time. This is the foundation that the dance culture of the Yeongnam region was further expanded upon amid the development of commerce and trade in the late Joseon Dynasty. Local residents inherited and innovated upon this and this become the locality of Yeongnam that continues to this day. As a result, Yeongnam dance can be said to be a form of dance that has been actively practiced in the within the environmental and cultural flow of the Yeongnam region. This study aims to contribute to the diversification of Korean dance and the pluralistic development of global dance culture by examining the locality of Yeongnam dance.
