지각된 사회적 지지가 대인관계 외상을 경험한 여대생의 외상 후 성장에 미치는 영향: 의미추구와 의미발견의 순차적 매개효과

초록

외상 후 성장이란 외상에 대처한 결과 개인이 외상 사건 이전보다 오히려 긍정적인 변화와 성숙을 경험하는 것을 가리킨다. 지각된 사회적 지지와 의미추구, 의미발견은 각기 외상 후 성장에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 연구되어왔으나, 대인관계 외상을 경험한 여대생을 대상으로 이를 종합적으로 검증한 연구는 부족하다. 이에 본 연구에서는 지각된 사회적 지지와 의미추구, 의미발견이 대인관계 외상을 경험한 여대생의 외상 후 성장과 어떠한 관계를 맺고 있는지 탐색하고, 나아가 지각된 사회적 지지와 외상 후 성장의 관계를 의미추구와 의미발견이 순차적으로 매개하는지를 검증하였다. 총 274명의 여대생이 참여하였으며, 관련 척도들이 포함된 설문지를 작성하였다. 분석 결과 의미추구와 의미발견은 각기 지각된 사회적 지지와 외상 후 성장 간의 관계를 매개하였다. 또한 지각된 사회적 지지는 의미추구와 의미발견의 순차적 매개를 통해 외상 후 성장에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 대인관계 외상을 경험한 여대생이 지각한 사회적 지지가 의미추구를 시도할 수 있는 심리적 자원으로 기능하며, 의미추구가 의미발견으로 이어질 때 외상 후 성장을 가져올 수 있음을 시사한다. 마지막으로 상담 장면에서 치료적 시사점과 추후 연구를 위한 제언을 논의하였다.

Abstract

Post-traumatic growth (PTG) refers to a positive change and maturation that occurs after traumatic events as a consequence of coping with trauma. Previous studies showed that perceived social support, search for meaning, and presence of meaning respectively have positive associations with PTG. However, inadequate research exists that comprehensively examined these variables in female college students who experienced interpersonal trauma. Therefore, this study investigated whether search for meaning and presence of meaning sequentially mediated the relationship between perceived social support and PTG. In total, 274 female college students participated in the study and completed self-report questionnaires. The results showed that both search for meaning and presence of meaning mediated the relationship between perceived social support and PTG. Moreover, serial mediation was significant; perceived social support increased search for meaning that, in turn, led to increased presence of meaning, and ultimately to an increased level of PTG. The current results indicate that perceived social support can function as a psychological resource that can facilitate search for meaning among female college students with interpersonal trauma, paving the way for presence of meaning linked to PTG. Finally, we discuss the practical implications of this study and provide suggestions for future research.
