Abstract

Dodangsan was found in “DongGyeongTongji”, country publication of Gyungju up published in Japanese colony period, and it was also called Jangdusan. The name of Dodangsan was derived from that a Silla king had abdicated the throne as while Jangdusan was named related with the legend of Silla's fall. Dodangsan gained special attention from the researchers studying before, and they related Dodangsan with Namdang, or Singung(god's palace). But Namdang was regarded as Jeongjeon in later period so that it couldn't be established separated from royal palace. Also Singgung was built in Najeong Lim gan where Heokgeose had been given birth, so it seemed not persuadable. Dodangsan was one of the peaks in Namsan where 4 ruins of ramparts including Wolsung as royal palace were remained, They were Dodangsan earthen ramparts, Namsan earthen ramparts, Namsan new fortress and Gohuh fortress. From this, Dodangsan earthen ramparts and Namsan earthen ramparts seemed function for defending royal city at first and that function seemed enlarged to Namsan new fortress and Gohuh fortress. Hence the earthen ramparts and mountain fortress in Namsan including Dodangsan earthen ramparts seemed built as bulwark for Wolsung, royal palace. Meanwhile, Namsan was the holy area so the surrounding had various relics related to rites, And Gohuh was formed under Sosa among rites for Myeongsandaecheon after unified Silla and Namsan new fortress was the ritual place of Palja and Joongnong which was agricultural rite. Apguje of Jesaji Sillajo was to suppress the ghosts in the hill, and 'Gu' meaned tomb or burial mound. Hence Apguje was the rite for expelling the evil ghosts in tombs, but the place of the rite didn't show on Jesaji Sillajo. Dodangsan was noticed geographically a hill and in "A collection of legends in Silla" that legend of Bonghwangdae and legend of Dodangsan were related, therefore it was assertive Apguje was held in Dodang san.
