This article is devoted to the last works of the two masters - I. Shishkin and I. Levitan, the representatives of Russian realistic landscape painting of the 19th century. The worlds of their last works reveal not only the evolution of a personal creative ways, but also the history of russian landscape painting. Shishkin showed a recognized image of russian nature, portraying russian trees, light and air in deep primitive forests and the immeasurably vast space. He opened the first page in the history of russian realistic landscape with its own hard work and artistic sincerity. Levitan's landscape not only conveys the exact description of the nature, but also solves the problem of understanding and poetics of the landscape. With the synthetic moods and emotions, Levitan found peculiarly sad and melancholic mood through the usual and ordinary russian landscape.
