Abstract
This study describes the results of model experiments to evaluate the effect of soil particle surface characteristics on the permeability of sandy soil. The experiment results showed that the permeability coefficient of standard sand was very sensitive to changes in permeability coefficient even when the soil particle surface had slightly hydrophobic characteristics, whereas in the case of sandy soil containing fine-grained soil, the decrease rate of permeability coefficient was evaluated to increase significantly when the soil particle surface had a certain level of hydrophobic characteristics. Regardless of whether fine-grained soil was included, the permeability coefficient decreased as the contact angle of the soil particle surface increased, but the decrease rate of permeability coefficient also increased only when the contact angle of standard sand increased significantly. However, in sandy soil containing fine-grained soil, the contact angle and decrease rate of permeability coefficient increased only when a high level of hydrophobicity was present.
