이 연구는 여성 자원봉사 리더의 돌봄 경험에 대한 질적 연구를 통해 행위자들이 공사 경계, 돌봄윤리정의/권리 경계에서 어떤 갈등과 협상을 실천하는지를 밝히고자 한다. 자원영역에서의 돌봄 활동을 통해 여성 자원봉사 리더들은 공사 경계에 직면하게 되는데, 구체적으로 그들은 희생과 자기이해 간의 경계, 돌봄의 합리성과 과학적 합리성 간의 경계, 이타주의와 권리/정의 간의 경계 사이에서 긴장을 경험한다. 여성 자원봉사 리더들은 이 긴장 속에서 가정 내 돌봄 경험에 기반을 둔 전형적인 돌봄 윤리를 하나의 자원으로 활용하고 있지만, 그것의 단순한 확장 속에서 자원봉사를 지속하고 있지는 않았다. 오히려 돌봄 윤리라는 자원과 개인적 생애과정 및 자원봉사를 둘러싼 제도적, 상황적 맥락이 제공하는 다른 자원들과의 긴장 속에서 나름의 대안을 적극적으로 찾아하는 주체로서의 선택을 보여주고 있다. 내 가정 안에서의 좁은 돌봄 관계가 아닌, 보다 넓은 지역공동체 안에서 새롭게 형성된 돌봄 관계, 돌봄의 합리성과 과학적 합리성의 경계를 넘어서는 “아줌마” 역량의 재발견, ‘자원봉사의 기쁨’을 통해 이타주의와 권리의 이분법을 넘어서는 해석 프레임의 발견과 감정적 경험을 통해 여성 자원봉사 리더는 공사 구분의 경계를 허물고 재구성하는 주체로의 변화 과정을 보여주고 있다.
Abstract
What makes women leaders of Korean volunteer groups continue taking part in volunteer works? This paper explores action strategies of the women volunteer leaders who encounter the boundaries between the public and the private. Based upon in-depth interview with the women leaders, this paper revealed there points: 1) that they experience tension and strain, while encountering the various boundaries between sacrifice-interests, scientific rationality-rationality of caring, and altruism-rights/justice; 2) that they develop various action strategies, while utilizing various resources which are available and have been developed on the institutional and contextual background of Korean voluntary sector and their own life stories, even though at the beginning they tended to rely on the care ethics rooted in the traditional gender role in the family; 3) that they constitute and feel themselves either ‘carer of the community’, or ‘competent old lady(Azumma)’, or ‘happy maker’, practically moving beyond the dichotomy of the public and the private.
