Abstract

Abstract The Opportunity and Challenge for China‐Africa Economic Cooperation ‐ The implication for Korea‐Africa Economic Cooperation Liu, Xuelin With globalisation, the potential of Africa has been fully recognised by the rest of the world. Africa became one of the most important emerging markets attracting huge investment from the rest of the world in recent years. Both China and Korea made a great effort to encourage investment in Africa. China has strong intention to enhance China‐Africa relations by emphasising the mutual interests toward economic cooperation between China and Africa. China’s policies and strategies for supporting China‐Africa economic cooperation have generated significant effects for Africa’s development. Meanwhile, Korea announced the policy for strengthening Korea‐Africa economic cooperation in order to provide a win‐win situation for both Korea and Africa. This paper overviews the transition of China‐Africa relations and the spill‐over effects of Chinese investment in Africa. Through discussing their investment strategies, and the opportunities and challenges that China and Korea have faced in investing in Africa, this paper tries to provide useful information for future strategic decision making for China and Korea.
