Abstract
This study aims to assert that Hannah Arendt's critique on Plato is fundamentally due to the means-end logic of Plato's philosophy. Whereas the existing researches on Arendt have focused her critique mainly on the context of philosophical history, this article focuses on the means-end logic. Human beings have not stopped trying to build utopias on the ground. Plato, who designed the ideal State system with the philosopher-king, is a pioneer in utopia planning. Arendt, however, attempts the emancipation from the truth by founding the essence of politics in the dialogues between citizens. It is because she refuse the penetration of the means-end logic, whose end is the truth, into the political realm. Arendt, instead of the truth, defines the plurality of humans, that they have different ideas, as the essence of politics. This is, in contrast to Plato, an attempt to secure the sphere of politics by liberating politics from the truth. She is trying to find the peculiarity of the politics in the dialogues between different people.
