초록

이 글은 2027년 서울 세계청년대회(WYD)가 단순히 잘 조직된 행사가 아니라, 복음화 관점에서 준비, 진행, 후속 과정까지 반영되어야 성공적이라 평가할 수 있다는 인식에서 출발한다. 이런 인식을 바탕으로 2027 WYD를 맥락화하고자 세속화와 복음화, 순례와 공 동체 경험, 가톨릭 세계시민 의식의 관점에서 조망한다. 또한 탈유럽중심 세계교회의 전 환 과정에서 한국교회가 서양과 동양, 북반구와 남반구 교회를 잇는 다리 역할을 강조한 다. 이런 배경에서 한국교회는 변방 교회의 역사적 모델, 화해와 평화의 상상력, 생태적 회심의 메시지로 세계교회에 기여할 수 있다. 동시에 WYD는 한국교회에 가톨릭 세계시 민 의식 함양, 조직문화의 업데이트, 청년 리더십 양성의 기회를 제공한다.

Abstract

The article envisions the 2027 World Youth Day (WYD) in Seoul as a success not only through effective organization but also deep evangelization, inspiring Korean and global Catholic communities to address contemporary challenges. It explores the 2027 WYD’s significance within global and ecclesial contexts, emphasizing innovative evangelization, experiences of communitas, and fostering Catholic global citizenship. Hosting WYD in Korea positions the Korean Church as a bridge between East and West and Global South and North, shifting away from a Eurocentric Church. The Korean Church can model outreach to the periphery, promote peace and reconciliation, and highlight ecological conversion. WYD can also benefit the Korean Church by fostering Catholic global citizenship and youth leadership and updating its organizational culture. The article concludes by advocating a contemplative approach to WYD preparations.
