초록

This thesis focuses on the intertextuality between a Japanese novel, Behind You by Nakanisi Inoske, its Korean translation by Lee Ik Sang and the counter-novel against it by Kim Myŏng Sun. Korean intellectuals in the mid-1920s were fascinated by Behind You because it dealt with Korean revolutionists participating in the independence movement. However, this had some controversial issues. Firstly, this novel represented the colony, Chosŏn as a female. Secondly, It was rumored that Kwŏn Ju Yŏng, the protagonist of Behind You had been modeled on the famous Korean woman writer, Kim Myŏng Sun. She wrote the counter-novel against it, “Tan Sil & Ju Yŏng” and carried it in a daily newspaper. On the other hand, Lee Ik Sang translated it to introduce Behind You as a proletarian literature to the Korean public. These different reactions of Lee Ik Sang's and Kim Myŏng Sun’s to the Nakanisi Inoske’s are significant because they make us catch the inside of the Chosŏn literary field in the mid-1920s and examine it from various angles, like ‘acceptance vs. resistance’ and ‘translation vs. creation’ and ‘male vs. female.’
