조선후기 평안도지역 도로 방어체계의 정비

Abstract

During the late 17th and mid 18th centuries, the regional defense system was restructured in Pyeognan Province. One of the most noticeable works was the installation of the defensive facilities on the military routes. There were three main routes that could lead from the border line to Pyeonyang, the center of Pyeongan Province ; the main route from Uiju (Uijudaero), the inland route from riverside of Yalu(Naeryugjigro), and the direct route from Ganggye(Ganggyejigro). Those routes went along to south through the mountain passes that might be the strategy points. So the government set up the policy to barricade the passes. First, several fortresses were founded around the passes during the reign of King Sukjong. Then the barriers was built on the passes to regulated traffic during the early reign of King Yeongjo. After the defense system of military routes was completed, the danger of war could be overcome in Pyeongan Province.
