Abstract
This study addressed the changes in news consumption and the theoretical implications of those changes in journalism. First, news consumption motives changed from the spectator motive to the communer-motive, and then later to the producer-motive. The producer-motive transformed users into amateur journalists, who produced news articles by the process of 'analyzing the audiences,' 'collecting the data for contents,' and 'producing the contents.' The emerging news values in reading and producing news are 'empathy,' 'hidden stories,' and 'human interest.' The users indirectly influence the media agenda by consuming news, and directly affect the agendas of our societies by choosing social issues, writing articles, and publishing them on the Internet. The changes in new contents include 'reporting private issues as news stories,' 'writing subjective opinions into news stories,' and 'writing fragmented cases into news stories.' The changes in news format include 'the dropping-out of literary style,' 'the destruction of the typical news format,' and 'the uses of multimedia.'
