가출청소년의 자살생각과 행동에 영향을 미치는 심리사회적 변인에 관한 연구

연구는 가출청소년들 중 길거리에서 지내는 청소년과 청소년쉼터 등에서 보호받는 청소년을 대상으로 자살생각과 행동에 영향을 미치는 심리사회적 요인을 알아보고자 실시되었다. 이를 위해 서울시의 9개 가출청소년보호시설과 서울시내 도심지역의 길거리에서 만난 총 150명의 가출청소년을 대상으로 설문조사를 한 결과 남자보다 여자가, 그리고 가출청소년보호시설에 거주하는 청소년보다 길거리에서 지내는 청소년들이 자살생각과 행동의 수준이 더 높은 것으로 나타났다. 자살생각과 행동에는 가출 후 음식을 못 먹도록 강요당한 경험(음식학대)이 있는지 여부, 가족 중 약물경력이 있는지 여부, 가족원에 의한 성학대 경험이 있는지 여부, 우울성향의 정도, 그리고 친구 중에 자살을 시도한 경우가 있는지 여부가 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 연구 결과에 기초하여 가출청소년의 자살예방을 위한 개입전략이 논의되었다.

Abstract

This study was conducted with a purpose of finding out the psychosocial factors that influence suicidal thoughts and behaviors of runaway youths. A cross-sectional survey of 150 runaway youths from youth shelters and city streets revealed that females more than males and youths living in streets more than those living in shelters tended to exhibit higher levels of suicidal thoughts and behaviors. The factors that influenced suicidal thoughts and behaviors were as follows: 1) whether or not the youth had ever been stopped from eating (food abuse), 2) whether or not there is a history of substance abuse in the family, 3) whether or not the youth experienced sexual abuse from a family member, 4) level of depression, 5) whether or not the youth has a friend who had attempted suicide. Based on the results, intervention strategies for the prevention of suicide among runaway youths are suggested.
