본 연구는 청소년의 자아개념 성장에 동아리활동경험이 미치는 영향을 알아보기 위해 수행되었다. 이러한 연구를 위해, 한국교육개발원의 한국교육종단조사 1~6차년도 데이터를 사용하여 2005년부터 전국 150개 중학교의 6908명 중학교 1학년 학생들이 고등학교 3학년이 될 때까지의 자아개념 성장에 동아리활동경험이 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 동아리활동경험이 자아개념(사회, 가족, 신체, 학업 자아개념)성장에 미치는 영향을 분석을 위하여, 동아리활동을 참여시점에 따라 네 집단(중학시절 참여, 고교시절 참여, 중고시절참여, 비참여)으로 나누고 집단별 성장의 차이를 다층성장모형을 통해 살펴보았다. 그 결과 동아리활동은 사회자아개념과 학업자아개념의 성장에 긍정적인 역할을 하는 것으로 밝혀졌다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of adolescents’ experience of club activities on their self‐concept, using data from the 1st‐6th years taken from the Korea Education Longitudinal Study, undertaken by the Korea Educational Development Institute. The students were divided into four groups (earlier‐participating, later‐participating, participating, and non participating groups) according to whether they had experienced club activities. Multi‐level analysis using the growth model was conducted in order to analyze the effect of adolescents’ experience of club activities on their self‐concept. The results of this study indicated that the self‐concept of the participating group grew higher than that of the non participating groups. Club‐activities positively impacted upon adolescents’ social self‐concept and academic self‐concept. These results indicate that adolescents’ experience of school activities may have a positively effect upon the growth of their self‐concept.
